Google Voice is called to be the main alternative to Microsoft Teams as a cloud-based unified communications system and to consolidate UCaaS as the default business communications system.

The similarities with respect to MS Teams are quite a few, with clients for all devices (including approved desk phones), integration with the collaboration suite (in this case Google Workspace, which includes Gmail and Google Docs, among others) or integration with carriers through SBCs, which we will discuss later.

Perhaps the main contributions come from the implicit characteristics of the Google world. For example, the use of artificial intelligence to block unwanted calls, generate autoresponder bots, greater potential in automatic transcriptions, etc. While Microsoft can use its full integration potential with the rest of its products (Office365 has a greater presence than Google’s suites), it must differentiate itself in process automation.

Regarding the integration with the PSTN, Google has approved the integration with SBCs Ribbon, Audiocodes, Oracle and Cisco, to have a solution equivalent to Microsoft’s Direct Routing. In the case of Google it is called “SIP link” and it is one of the areas where Quobis can be a trusted partner, as is the case with deployments with Microsoft.

Google Voice promises to be more aggressive than Microsoft by including calling plans to several international destinations (12 European countries and the US, at the moment) at no additional cost, but it is expected that, like Microsoft, large corporations will use SIP link to take advantage of the services of the carriers they have contracted and the interconnection with the legacy PBXs.
