28 October 2013
Some weeks ago we celebrated the IberianTelecomSummit, the most important event in Spain and Portugal for managers of UC solutions and architecture in service providers. This year was held in Madrid and the focus was the most recently launched solutions for service providers, where WebRTC applications play a key role. The event was an unique opportunity to exchange ideas and network with speakers and panels focused on the evolution of VoIP and WebRTC technologies for service providers. We have two panels, one with network equipment vendors and other one with delegates of service providers. Dialogic, Oracle and Genband shared their views about WebRTC and how are the launching solutions to help CSPs to adopt this new technology. Telecom operators like Portugal Telecom and R Cable shared the impressions about technology adoption and future plans in an interesting discussion. Before these panels, the conferences were focused on security in UC and WebRTC. Antón Román (CTO of Quobis) explain the most common attacks in voice networks (fraud, illegal control, etc) and counterfeits. He had time to introduce Bluebox-ng, a result of an internal personal project that is being used to detect potential risks in UC networks. Anton present another conference to talk about the integration of WebRTC services in service providers, to explain how they need to manage topics like user provisioning, authentication, authorization our accounting, Victor Pascual (CSO of Quobis) explained the current situation with standards in WebRTC and talk about the key topics like which video codec is going to be selected and which is the strategy for adopting WebRTC by different web browsers. Iago Soto (CMO of Quobis) mentioned different cases of use of WebRTC for service providers, like extending fixed-line services to the web, but had time to mentioned some disruptive ones, like the possibility to introduce multimedia communication in Set-Top-Boxes or WebTV and mechanisms to compete with Over-the-top services. Finally he showed the approach of the company to WebRTC, talking about SIPPO and the corporate clients and click-to-call solutions. Finally, we had time to show some demos in the terrace and to have the opportunity to eat, relax and express our own views with other participants and attendees. image_its_2013
