Quobis joins ATIS device solutions initiative

2 April 2014

Quobis, the leader in WebRTC applications, today announced that has joined the Device Solutions Initiative (DSI) of the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS). This initiative is developing solutions to expose the value of the network to devices and applications by reducing complexity in network APIs. The goal is to provide developers with network-agnostic, client-side APIs that simplify access to the network.

The DSI’s first result is the definition of a complete set of methods called ORCA.js. ORCA consists of a set of call control APIs that enable web developers to embed signaling for Real-time Communications in their applications. This initiative complements the work done by the WebRTC community in providing a standard way to support real-time communication in HTML5 browsers.

ATIS’ DSI brings together major North American telecommunications service providers, global telecom equipment manufacturers and others in the development of its solutions. Quobis is working in the support of this initiative through its development of the “Sippo WebRTC Application Controller.” The Controller is a new network element that leverages ORCA APIs to help add WebRTC services to residential and corporate customers. It hides the complexity behind the different implementation of the standards by web browsers and gateway vendors and provides a complete set of APIs to manage AAA, user provisioning, contact management, policy control and other features.
